Facts - From Woods to Castles!
Many companies are scrambling to create manufacturing processes to meet consumers' new demand for environmentally-sensitive materials and business practices. For FLEXA Furniture, that is the way we have always done business.
FLEXA, founded in 1972 in Denmark, makes children's bedroom furniture including beds, bunks, desks, armoires, drawers and fun textiles. All bed components are made from solid Nordic pine grown above the 60th parallel, in the northern Russian forests, a resource the company values and conserves.
FLEXA's green stance also encompasses an innovative recycling plan that in recent years as turned into a viable energy alternative. All sawdust and wood chips leftover from FLEXA's bed and case good production are recycled into clean burning sawdust pellets for the company's subsidiary, FLEX Heat. The pellets, which have no additives or lacquer, are used to heat FLEXA's wood processing facilities in Estonia and their plants in Denmark and are also sold to thermal power plants throughout Europe. FLEX Heat A/S produces 85,000 tons of heating pellets annually. |
